FairScope had the privilege of participating in the exciting launch of Objectif Plancton's new season aboard the sailboat We Explore!
Dedicated to empowering citizen science and ecological initiatives, FairScope is proud to contribute our expertise to meaningful projects like Objectif Plancton, uniting scientists, sailors, and passionate volunteers in the quest for greater understanding of our oceans.
A Synchronized Plankton Sampling
During this unique citizen science event, teams across Brittany, from Concarneau and Brest to Lorient, simultaneously collected plankton samples, following a shared, precise protocol.
Equipped with specialized sampling kits and nets, all teams began their sampling operations at exactly 1 PM, creating a synchronized snapshot of marine biodiversity.
Real-Time Plankton Data at Sea
This event provided an ideal setting to showcase the PlanktoScope.
The PlanktoScope V.2.6 is a flow-through microscope that excels in capturing details of plankton up to 300 µm, enabling comprehensive planktonic studies.
It captured real-time plankton data directly at sea and demonstrated the device's practical and educational potential.
Great Conversations and Valuable Insights
We greatly appreciated the dynamic exchanges with the Explore Team and Yvan Le Bras from the Pôle National de Données de Biodiversité, especially around best practices in data management and marine research.
Special thanks to Emmanuel Poisson Quinton for the warm invitation, and to Roland Jourdain & Sophie Jourdain Vercelletto for their inspiring discussions and invaluable insights!
